Camden on the Lake Resort, Spa Yacht Club

Nestled deep into the woods; down a long curvy road is a beautiful resort entitled,  Camden on the Lake Resort, Spa, Yacht Club. Eric has a friend who is a part of the Yacht Club and invited us to visit. Our first weekend was perfect! The service was fabulous, excellent band, and great people. Our second visit was wonderful however, I have some suggestions for the resort to increase their ‘family’ appeal. Just keep reading I will explain later.

Before I continue I would like to thank Mike and Genece for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful small piece of heaven. You opened your Yacht to my family, fed us, entertained us and made us feel like family! Both of you are awesome.

Back to the resort. I would recommend Camden! It is a beautiful resort strategically placed in a cove that provides scenery  beyond belief! Unfortunately, I missed the sunrise both weekends because we were dancing until wee hours, in the morning. However, the sunsets are those which make you stop and think. They were layer upon layer of fascinating colors blended so perfectly that you were frozen with amazement, until the sun had completely set!

Camden offers a magnificent decor along with the amenities. A fire-place, glass shower with benches, microwave, refrigerator, sink, and a dishwasher. The patio served as a perfect spot to sip on morning coffee.Other, amenities are a swimming pool with a swim up bar, small game room,  jacuzzi, bar/grill, full restaurant on the top floor, an Aveda Spa and much more.

All of the employees are friendly and willing to help.

Of course when searching for a unique place to visit everyone wants to know, what is the cost? Here is one of the negatives. The first time we only spent a couple hundred a night. Not a bad price for such a beautiful resort. However, the second time the cost had almost tripled. Although, we were fortunate enough to have our friend receive a discount, due to his membership, but that is ridiculous! Therefore, if you decide you want to experience Camden on the Lake Resort, check the rates!

The drive from Kentucky was about seven hours, but a magnificent one! We briefly visited ‘Lake of the Ozark.’ It was full of small pubs, restaurants, unique stores, a beautiful dam and a car show in the middle of the street? Yes, you read it correctly. When we drove through this quaint little town a line from the beginning to end were automobiles. It was a car show and people were everywhere. Although it was slow-moving traffic I must say it was fun! Nicholas kept saying, “Slow Down! Oh look at that.”

He continued to talk about the car show the entire weekend! This is definitely something to look up and attend. If I had more time, I would have spent the entire evening walking the streets of the Lake of the Ozark’s town.

For those of you who love to travel with your family, I am unsure if this is the place for you. (Unless you have a yacht, there is not much for kids to do.) You might ask why I would make such a statement? Especially, if I loved this weekend getaway. There just didn’t seem to be enough for kids, I am mainly talking about teenagers. If they weren’t twenty-one they couldn’t go to the swimming pool across the cove. They couldn’t dance with us and it seemed that after 9:00 P.M. it was an ‘adult only’ scene.

I am not complaining. I had a wonderful time. Made some great new friends, enjoyed dancing, swimming and laughing. However, when we took our two teenagers they were bored. I met several new visitors and they said, “Camden lacked family activities. We have enjoyed it, but not sure if we will return.”

Therefore, I think the resort should advertise as a twenty-one and up vacation spot or provide some other activities. I am unsure what they could plan nor do I claim to be an expert at ‘fun time’ for kids.. I simply do not want to encourage families to visit somewhere, based on my opinion without knowing what to expect.

I think anyone who loves water, a beautiful setting, and needs to get away, Camden on the Lake is a perfect place. If you and your honey need to slip off by yourselves to snuggle or have a night filled with dancing and good people; this is a definite small slice of heaven, for adults.
