When you wake up feeling sad…It is usually because you are focusing on yesterday, instead of what you CAN change…today

What the heck are you? Are you a writer? Speaker? Coach, Author, Educator, or Entertainer? What the heck are you?

After my last speech at Toastmasters in KC, these and many more questions filled my brain. After someone asked the above questions and, “What are your plans, next?”

I spent the last 24 hours with a sense of sadness as I allowed myself to reminisce through the past. Did I say something wrong? Maybe I am too much? What am I? Who am I?  What if I can’t make it? What if? Why? Maybe I am not good enough?

NEXT…I woke up this morning allowing the same questions to pound through my head like a bull in a china shop! WHAT AM I DOING? You see I was focusing on what had already been done.

Finally, I found my manuscript from a coaching session of an elementary student! In the very beginning, I taught her how to find and use a ‘Happy Word’. Then I explained that as long as she was focusing on what she CAN CHANGE and not the past, everything would be fine. For example: She had failed a spelling test and was extremely upset with herself for not studying. I redirected her attention to the fact that the only thing she can change is the next spelling test. Unless of course the teacher would let her re-take the last exam.

Day after day we would discuss why she was sad or angry. Each time it was something she had already done and couldn’t take back.

Do you do this? I do! If I allow myself to become engrossed in the past. I become sick to my stomach, don’t eat, and wallow in self pitty. But the truth is you or myself, cannot redo yesterday, we can only improve today.

My answer to all the questions are YES! I am a writer, speaker, coach, published author, educator, entertainer and…much more.

Just like you, I must feel down on occasion to enjoy the up moments.

If you are feeling sad, depressed, frustrated or angry today…allow your brain to feel the emotions long enough to remind you, this is NOT THE WAY YOU WANT TO FEEL!

Now, take your smile back. Find your many titles and wear them with pride. I know it isn’t always easy to let go of the past. Or to forgive those who irritated you. However, I promise if you will hold on…one more minute…find a happy thought and reset your vibration.

Some ideas on how to quickly reset:

  1. Find your happy word
  2. Play uplifting music
  3. Do the twist in your living room
  4. Jump up and down
  5. Cry, but only for a little while
  6. Ask one friend to remind you of something you have done GOOD!
  7. Write your life resume
  8. Excercise
  9. Kiss your lover like it could be your last
  10. Or just say happy words until you reset your vibration

Last time I checked no one is perfect. I know I am not, but our imperfections mold us and allow our talents to be illuminated!

Sometimes giving up feels like it would be easier. But I promise even that phase or process of giving up hurts worse than a reset. So I beg of you if you are reading this post…right now…please know:

YOU ARE WONDERFUL JUST THE WAY YOU ARE! YOU HAVE GIFTS TO SHARE WITH THE WORLD! YOU ARE WORTHY OF BEING LOVED! YOU ARE WORTHY OF BEING HAPPY. FEEL HOW AWESOME YOU ALREADY ARE AND KEEP ON ADDING TITLES TO YOUR LIFE WITH PRIDE.

What are your intentions?

Have you ever considered what your intentions are?

Why do you feel compelled to compliment someone? Or insult?

Is it because you consider yourself a ‘nice’ person or maybe you consider yourself to be a butt? And that means you are living up to your potential.

Consider this…truthfully your intentions are to feel good. Even if you are full of insults, you always come back with either, “You know me…I am a jerk!” (Which actually means let me make myself feel better by excusing my crappy action and expecting everyone else to feel better about it.) Or, “You know I am only joking or attempting to help you!” (You don’t want my opinion of this statement).

Next time you have the opportunity to ‘state your opinion’ think…what are my intentions on making this statement.

Because I promise illuminating insults will in return not make you feel better. And someday, somewhere, someone will return the favor…Hmmmm, wonder how you will feel and if your intentions will change?

As I learn more each day my greatest lessons always come from those who provide me with the most resistance. I am grateful for those people, but also send out a message of caution.

Although you may have ‘good’ intentions, ensure they are lifting up the other person before you speak. Not because of the amount of harm you cause someone else, but rather the harm you bring upon yourself!

Geez, Even God is not as hard on you…as YOU ARE!

As Livelove LLC evolves and grows by leaps and bounds my circle of people continues to grow like wild flowers! Yesterday, I left the house at 1:00 in the afternoon and returned around 9:30 in the evening. My day was filled with beautfiul people, some I was collaborating with, others coaching and wrapped up the day with learning more about my Earylybird Toastmasters family. To say the least it was magnificent! I felt blessed beyond belief.

As I laid my head down to relax, my mind raced as if I were in the Indy 500. Comments, conversations, scenarios, and questions raced around and around chasing one another.

Then it suddenly stopped! Similar to a dime spinning and wobbling, only to have a hand smack it…SPLAT! The dime lays still, waiting for someone to pick it up and begin again.

My STOP! Was the moment I realized, “GEEZ, even God is not as hard on us, as WE ARE!”

As my mind was suspended in space, merely observing the comments made throughout the day, by others and even me. Thats when I questioned, “Why? Why do we beat up on ourselves? Why do we feel so compelled to be perfect?”

Why do we continually beat the same old drum? With the same repeat pattern?

What can you change about yesterday? My friend, you can change nothing about yesterday! The only thing you can do with yesterday is regurgitate it over and over in your mind or with others. However, it can never be ‘fixed’ or altered. The past is where it is for a reason.

Instead, try implementing these little thoughts to help you adjust, readjust, and begin focusing on creating tomorrow’s memories by making today magnificent.

For the past has already come and went. Tomorrow may never come. Leaving TODAY, is all you have to play. Enjoy!

Need a little extra help jumping some hurdles in your life? We have a multitude of resources and would love to help you find your ‘Happy’ Spot today and beyond!

Toastmasters? Who is that and who cares?

When you go to the closet and pick up a pair of pants, that do not fit any longer, do you continue to wear them? If you do attempt to ‘make do’ does it become disastrous?

At one time, I worried about being too fat, not good enough and was terribly unsatisfied with the way my clothes fit. I decided to become dedicated to the cause. I worked out and felt terrific. I reached my goals and felt pretty good about myself.

However, I had this one pair of pants! They were my favorite pair. Black silky material, elastic waist, balloon pant legs which created an illusion, I was wearing a long evening gown, but they were functional. I would tell the kids they were my ‘Fancy Pants.’ I truly did love this pair of pants.

Therefore I continued to wear them. Who cared, if they were five sizes too big. No one else knew, just me. As I daydream back to the day I remember my honey bunny saying, “When are you going to get rid of those pants?! They are hanging off of you and if you aren’t careful they will fall down in front of your class!”

What did he know about fashion? I didn’t pay any attention to his nonsense. I arrived at work early and whistled as I walked into the front door. “Good Morning, Ms. Connie,” I cheerfully said as I scooted past her office, in my flowy pants.

The day went wonderful. All of my lessons were going as planned and life couldn’t be better. My planning time came and it was time for lunch. As I nonchalantly danced by the office I heard a deep, male voice call out my name, “Mrs. Drake?”

I jumped a bit and then I heard, “We need your help in the office.”

As much as I wanted to play sick and run back to my classroom, I didn’t. I never wanted to upset Ms. Connie, she is the best.

Turns out she had left due to a family emergency and I was the only ‘warm body’ who could fill in, at least until after my planning period. Which might I add, it was always a short planning time, until today! This day seemed like forty-five minutes was forty-five days.

Of course I quickly found myself sitting in ‘THE CHAIR’ the one where all the phone calls come in, the parents, grandparents, step parents, sick kids, medicated students, vomiting teachers, and last but not freaking least the INTERCOM SYSTEM! I may seem a bit dramatic, but the office manager, in my opinion, has the most difficult job of any in the school system.

The first parent arrived within five minutes of me sitting down. She said in a meek little voice and shaky hands, “Yes, my daughter is in 6th grade and she left her book bag at home. Soooo I wanted to bring it to her…”

I quickly interrupted in a flustered voice, “What? Who did you say? You are going to have to speak up and what class is she in?”

Oh for goodness sakes that one took me fifteen minutes. Including that ordeal, I had four teachers, one cafeteria assistant calling me and the outside calls, were rolling over to an email, faster than I could answer.

It was my last five minutes and a dad buzzes at the door. I let him in, he requested to pick up his son in 6th grade. Most organized human I had dealt with in the past forty minutes. He knew which class at the correct time and spoke up. Pleased with my survival skills through the past few events…I smile really big and I politely say, “Thank you for being so organized and I will call your son up at this time.” (I almost sounded like a robot).

I call the classroom, no he is not in there. Hmmm maybe this dad made a mistake. This continues on for a couple of times. I am now using the intercom and telephone when he yells out, “OH I am so sorry, I forgot he is in seventh grade, he is in math!”

He yelled so loud I fell back into the roller chair, that I had been attempting to spin back and forth in, to accomplish more, in a shorter amount of time. When I fell I zoomed backwards towards Ms. Connie’s desk and quickly spun around, placing my elbows on the desk and hands under my chin. “I am sorry, I didn’t quite catch that?”

He repeated it in a much calmer and embarrassed voice, “My son is in the seventh grade, I am so sorry…”

As he continued to apologize I had become a little smirky and to be blunt I was ticked off. I spun around to turn my back to this man, whom I was upset with. Placed both feet firmly on the ground…pushed my behind up using both hands and my body.

AND…as fast as I stood up, my pants came plummeting down. Yes, down to my knees! My bare behind was there for this man and whoever else wanted to see! I quickly plopped back down, as I gasped for air! Not only were they down, the bottom of my right pant leg was tightly wound around the wheel. I wasn’t going anywhere.

I remember I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry and the man, he turned around and walked out in the hall. Probably to laugh so hard he had to pee his pants! Mr. Genton heard me laughing hysterically, as I grabbed my stomach and bent over to attempt and free my pants leg! Of course he helped the father find his son and all he could say between his tears of hysterical laughing, was, “Why do you wear pants that are clearly to big?”

I hope you are now laughing too! This is absolutely a true story. I guess now most of you know why, when someone suggests me working in an office, I laugh and politely decline.

You see, not only were my pants too big, but I was attempting to fill even greater shoes.

Are you doing the same thing in life? Are you continuing to wear the old YOU, who doesn’t fit anymore? It isn’t about the size, it’s about the fit. Isn’t it time you find your own shoes to fill? And if you are hanging on to those old clothes, ask yourself, “Do I want to return to this person or am I okay with brand new and a better fit?”

If the world is continually rotating that means there is never a stagnant moment. Meaning CHANGE is inevitable.

Sometimes we hold ourselves to ‘way back then’ so long, we forget to experience the now and forever more. When you fit in your own skin, life feels pretty TERRIFIC!

God Loves YOU NO MATTER WHAT!

The most important part of our business is assisting you in finding your happiness!

Cross-Country, Track and Life?

Do you have a desire? Any desire? Determination to accomplish a task, earn large amounts of money, or win a race?

I can remember assisting my daughter as she first began to run cross-country. We would attempt to walk the courses before the race, to ensure she knew what to expect. However, there were always places we couldn’t reach. Usually those were the spots with an unexpected log, slick spot, or mud hole, you could drown in if you weren’t careful.

Darion would always worry about those detours, I would explain how to slow down and be more cautious, when approaching an unknown portion of the trail.

Although she is an adult and those days are long gone. She continues to push forward and not worry so much about the unknown. But rather enjoy the journey, at her own pace.

When Ashby began to run hurdles I thought, with track the visibility would be easier, creating less stress because they knew what to expect. I was proven wrong, time and time again. Sometimes the clear, concise path was more intimidating because the runners, knew the hurdle was there.

Why was this an issue? Because sometimes knowing what to expect, you continually worry about the hurdles, instead of the finish line.

While coaching runners to cross over to become a hurdler, I learned that many chose the 100 meters race over the 300. For example: one meter hurdles, Ashby was confident because she knew it was for just a short stint. It was not the entire track and was quick and easy (for the most part). As well as, many other athletes, who were more confident in the 100 meter, over the 300 meter. I always questioned why? It appeared both would be challenging, but simple enough to train for.

As I observed runners at practice, I watched them anticipate the hurdles, strategically placed around the track, they would fret to the point of physching themselves out.

Three hundred meter hurdles were more intimidating. They took more planning, time, and provided a wider view of the course, to run.

What if you had a family vacation planned, but the map came alive and demonstrated every possible hurdle on your trip? Would you still take the holiday? Probably not, especially if you were expected be far from home.

The athletes would do this very same thing. They would look at the long course, plan all the what ifs in their mind, and sometimes they didn’t run the 300 meter, due to fear.

In life, you already know there will be hurdles, along your journey of fulfilling your desires. But many choose to not continue, especially if they already know how many times they could possibly fall down, skin their knees or have a group of hurdles to jump.

As I assist people from all over the world. I realize life can be compared to a cross-country race, 100 meter hurdles, as well as the 300 meter.

Return to the opening questions. Do you have a desire? What is it? Once you have identified it, look at the end result. What pushes you to obtain your goals?

Now tell yourself…If I were running a cross-country race, I know there are spots that will be rough, unexpected terrain. However, all I need to do is slow down and look a few steps ahead. Glance up to see the dark spots on the path, but then return to directly in front of me and keep on running.

What if your journey is more visible and you can actually see the path? Remember, there will continue to be hurdles. Some will be bunched up together, similar to the one-hundred meter. Yet, others will be spread apart and all come up at once. Regardless of how far apart they are, they will appear.

Your job is to jump! JUMP one at a time and keep on dreaming. Keep on pushing and know that once at the finish line, you may relax. But only until the next race begins. Get ready? Get set? Gooooooo…….

God Bless

My greatest desire is to provide you with hope, determination and ways for you to find your personal pathway to happiness.

How would you participate in the Olympics, if you had the choice?

As the meeting began at promptly seven in the morning, we quickly scurried to our seats and the ‘Toastmaster’ began our weekly meeting. I can’t tell you how elated I am, each time I attend a meeting. I know our Earlybird Toastmaster group thinks I am lying, at times, when I boldly announce how happy I am to have this wonderful experience with such a wonderful group of people and for a good cause. (Yes, I become all mushy and sentimental sometimes, because I am so darn grateful for this experience). However, they always find a way to uplift, educate and inspire me to keep on keeping on.

This week was no different. I was so ecstatic to be there I had goosebumps. Then they announced the topic or subject of the week! Omg, each and every cell was bouncing up and down when he said, “Olympics.”

I don’t remember anything else, but that word! I don’t know if it is about specific athletes, awards, or #trends on #twitter. I simply heard OLYMPICS! I thought oh yes! This is my topic! I can remember when the torch was to be running through our small town of Bedford Kentucky over twenty-two years ago!

It was a cold, dreary day and Darion was at least two years old, which she is now 25. I had all the details. When the athlete would be passing our driveway, approximate time of arrival at the Courthouse and the time of the torch lighting. I talked about it for weeks and weeks before the actual day! LOL I remember friends of mine laughing at me for my obsession surrounding this event. It was finally here!

I wrapped Darion up and we quickly walked to the end of our mile long driveway. The rain poured, it felt like God was pouring buckets of water on top of us! It didn’t matter, we stood firm and cheered as the drenched and cold athlete ran by. Tears streamed down my face as Darion looked up and asked, “What’s wrong mommy? Why are you sad?”

I chuckled, swooped her up to rush and catch the lighting of the torch. The inspiring event continues to hold a special place in my heart. However, after reading this heartfelt series of events you would probably create an image of a sports crazed person. Watching sports event after event, having great celebrations around the sports world to be able to cheer on my team. Truth is I could care less. I can take it or leave it, but the Olympics inspires me, creates emotions of exhilaration, I can, achievement and unity.

While multitasking by reflecting and enjoying my emotions, I am quickly brought back to reality, when the acquainting session had begun and I was off in la la land. “I am sorry, can you restate the question?”

“If you could participate in the Olympics what would you want your role to be?”

(I am not even sure if that was the question, but that is what I heard).

I stated my name and what I ‘do’ then said, “If I could be anything I would be a coach! And now that I think about it, that’s what I love to do anyways.”

What? What kind of answer was that? My Stinking Thinking (Zig Ziglar) was creeping in! Michael one of my fellow toastmasters, reminded me to stop Stinkin Thinkin and I immediately brought myself back to the meeting! He is correct. I am fine, I continued to ‘coach’ myself through each portion and stayed focused on the speeches.

Then it happened. One of those AHA moments, hit me! Sam (another fellow Toastmaster) said, “Teena, When you said that about being a coach, I laughed and told Michael, if Teena Drake told me I could do it, I would believe it and do it.”

I laughed it off, yet allowed his kind and motivational words to sink in.

Sam hit the bullseye! I always knew I was labeled a cheerleader. However, after a certain age the title cheerleader, isn’t how I would describe myself. Because it is isolated to one team or age group. However, over the years some of my greatest emotional accomplishments were during my times of coaching. And yes, I mean original types of sports coaching- Tee ball, flag football, middleschool volleyball, cheerleading, track…as well as talent, beauty, pageants and academics!

In the sports world, I struggled with insecurities. I never felt ‘good’ enough to uphold the title Coach. I don’t know if it was my lack of ability in those skill sets or my lack of knowledge. But I rarely placed my ‘coaching’ experience on a resume or LinkedIn, until now.

However, my teams were always successful. I have a great deal to celebrate over the multitude of wins and improvements in my athletes. But I didn’t have faith in my own ability.

Although my style of coaching is much different than the past, the main purpose/goal, is invariably the same. I love it! As coach… you are their cheerleader, small tiny voice in their heads that says, “Yes, you can!” Mentor, guide and most of all motivator.

Along with so many people who assist, motivate, hold me accountable and uplift my gifts, I must express my deepest gratitude to all of them and to my fellow Toastmaster friends.

You see, you do not know when your words could change someone’s life forever! If you see something terrific in someone tell them. They may need a little boost to fullfill their own dreams and ambitions. We are all in this together.

I am grateful to know I am on the right path.

Do you love this feeling as well? Haven’t found it yet? Still looking for a title that resignates with you? Look into our services we are building an empire of self development tools, wide variety of coaches, and keynote speakers.

What do you want to say when asked, “What do you do? Why?”

When adversity appears what do you do?

As I prepare for my first experience as Toastmaster, I feel nervous and a bit anxious. The speaking roles are not nearly as scary as being the Organized Leader of the meeting. Eek! 😩

I keep telling myself, Breathe…it will be okay.

That is why I am writing, is to ask your opinion. I have set the theme for this week as, “When faced with adversity, what do you do?”

Because everyone experiences adversity in life, it is not a popular discussion, but is a common thread throughout all of mankind.

In a world where leaders, political views, sexual harassment and diversity has a strong presence, overshadowing our similarities and love…What can we do?

What do you do when someone judges, threatens, or violates you? How do you handle these reoccurring ‘life’ events?

Let me know. How do you cope, when you come face to face with adversity?

Help us, learn from you. Leave a comment below or email me at Livelove.teena@gmail.com.
