The ripples intrigue me…

As I sit and ponder my next great adventure, I quickly notice the abrupt change in the flow of the Ohio River.

When I first arrived at the studio it looked like glass with out a peep of ripples to be noticed. Within seconds I looked out and half of the river continued to hold steady, allowing the trees to reflect their natural beauty. The other half had began to dance in a sweet melodious manner. Swaying back and forth as if the life under the water was just waking up.

Peaceful, intriguing, fabulous, calm, breezy, not quiet but rather sound waves surrounding the area. Filling this beautiful environment with sweet singing of birds, jets zooming by high in the sky, a breeze rustling the leaves, AND what did I just catch a glimpse of? An EAGLE soaring in all her glory!

Have you ever stopped and thought what are my intentions? How do I want to feel? How do I want others to feel?

The sweet whisper escapes my lips- For my part in YOUR reality & mine…I Love you, I am so sorry, please forgive me, and thank you!

We all have moments of doubt, anger, sadness, and depression…however, it’s all about your perspective that will either hold you to all the yesterday’s (which you cannot change) or you can change what you are focusing on. Leave the past back with all the would, shoulds, coulds, and can’ts.

If I were to hand you a new life…what would you change?

As always we are here for you. Life (coaching) can help with divorce, weight, breaking nasty habits, building healthy relationships, depression, parenting, tutoring (for all ages) and much more. But most importantly we want you to…

Do Not Judge Me for You Know Not of What I’ve Suffered…

As the man shouts out for justice and answers, about his missing daughter…He screams he shouts I want to only know…

As the woman spouts racial slurs and utilizes offensive language towards the woman in blue…not because she is black or white but because she wears the same color as the man who shot her daddy.

As the young boy lashes out and kills another because all he knows is violence and rage.

As the young person writes their goodbye letters in shame for wanting to leave their loved ones behind and take their own life, in hopes to relieve the pain from the battle in their head.

Do not judge me for you know not of what I’ve suffered. You know not of my deep sorrow, pain, suffereing, and heartbreak.

Oh my friend, but I do. For all who have walked have first fallen. All who have gained have suffered loss. All who have lived must die.

Do not judge me for you know not of what I’ve suffered…

K.I.S.S. Life

Keep, it, simple, silly! What? Yes, keep your life simple.

At this very moment I deleted an entire blog posting, explaining K.I.S.S. and how important it is. Then I realized you don’t have time to read all my lengthy explainations! Therefore…I am going to show you how to K.I.S.S. you life!

Scenario: You are experiencing sadness, a loss, a focus on what is. Basically, life to you, at this moment FEELS UGH! Whatever the circumstances are, you just can’t quit thinking about all the crud, going on right at this time.

Change your thoughts!

Thank you, We are done here!

Okay, I am joking. I realize how difficult life can seem, at times. I also realize it doesn’t work to continuously think about the ‘it’ you are concerned about.

(Definition of the IT- lover, kids, step-children, ex-partner, cars, jobs. In adult worlds the three hot topics are MONEY, WEIGHT or Body appearance, and LOVE.  A Kid’s world is similar, but they seem to change their perspective, much quicker)

How then do we fight this feeling of depression, sadness and/or Ughness?

Try this:

Without doing anything else…

Right at this moment…

Think of TEN of the silliest words, nonrelated to your It, and be as crazy and random as you want! Have FUN!!!!!

Let’s try this together…

You begin to tell me all your ‘stuff’ or how frustrated, sad, irritated, lonely, depressed, broke, unhappy or however else you feel.

Bubble Butt, pink poop, grasshopper slime, slurpy, hairy balloons (hahahah you thought I would say b_lls), frolicking, freaky, green burps, blurple!

Example: You as of this moment, “I cried all night because he said… (I am abruptly intterupting, hypothetically)

Pink Poop!” (Pause) You giggle…

You, “I just can’t believe someone would do this to me…”

Bubble Butt

Come on you are LAUGHING! Admit it!

Go ahead… Read or say the list out loud. Yes, out loud! Yes, while discussing all your crud or your IT! Do IT.

After you have stopped laughing. Do you feel better? Did your problem go away? NO, but it will. Because we know, “This too shall pass.”

It may seem to simple, but if you were to truly step back and analyze your life from this age and back, do you remember the difficult times? Of course you do. Do you remember feeling like you would NEVER GET THROUGH THIS? Of course you do! But you did!

You made it, You aren’t sure how, but you DID IT. Now reflect back…did worrying, crying and feeling UGH for a long period of time assist you in any way? Of course it didn’t. It only caused you more harm and you probably became sick, if you prolonged the worrying!

I realize LIFE can be tough at times. However, I have learned the more you K.I.S.S It the much easier, even the tough times, can be!

You are LOVED!

How would you participate in the Olympics, if you had the choice?

As the meeting began at promptly seven in the morning, we quickly scurried to our seats and the ‘Toastmaster’ began our weekly meeting. I can’t tell you how elated I am, each time I attend a meeting. I know our Earlybird Toastmaster group thinks I am lying, at times, when I boldly announce how happy I am to have this wonderful experience with such a wonderful group of people and for a good cause. (Yes, I become all mushy and sentimental sometimes, because I am so darn grateful for this experience). However, they always find a way to uplift, educate and inspire me to keep on keeping on.

This week was no different. I was so ecstatic to be there I had goosebumps. Then they announced the topic or subject of the week! Omg, each and every cell was bouncing up and down when he said, “Olympics.”

I don’t remember anything else, but that word! I don’t know if it is about specific athletes, awards, or #trends on #twitter. I simply heard OLYMPICS! I thought oh yes! This is my topic! I can remember when the torch was to be running through our small town of Bedford Kentucky over twenty-two years ago!

It was a cold, dreary day and Darion was at least two years old, which she is now 25. I had all the details. When the athlete would be passing our driveway, approximate time of arrival at the Courthouse and the time of the torch lighting. I talked about it for weeks and weeks before the actual day! LOL I remember friends of mine laughing at me for my obsession surrounding this event. It was finally here!

I wrapped Darion up and we quickly walked to the end of our mile long driveway. The rain poured, it felt like God was pouring buckets of water on top of us! It didn’t matter, we stood firm and cheered as the drenched and cold athlete ran by. Tears streamed down my face as Darion looked up and asked, “What’s wrong mommy? Why are you sad?”

I chuckled, swooped her up to rush and catch the lighting of the torch. The inspiring event continues to hold a special place in my heart. However, after reading this heartfelt series of events you would probably create an image of a sports crazed person. Watching sports event after event, having great celebrations around the sports world to be able to cheer on my team. Truth is I could care less. I can take it or leave it, but the Olympics inspires me, creates emotions of exhilaration, I can, achievement and unity.

While multitasking by reflecting and enjoying my emotions, I am quickly brought back to reality, when the acquainting session had begun and I was off in la la land. “I am sorry, can you restate the question?”

“If you could participate in the Olympics what would you want your role to be?”

(I am not even sure if that was the question, but that is what I heard).

I stated my name and what I ‘do’ then said, “If I could be anything I would be a coach! And now that I think about it, that’s what I love to do anyways.”

What? What kind of answer was that? My Stinking Thinking (Zig Ziglar) was creeping in! Michael one of my fellow toastmasters, reminded me to stop Stinkin Thinkin and I immediately brought myself back to the meeting! He is correct. I am fine, I continued to ‘coach’ myself through each portion and stayed focused on the speeches.

Then it happened. One of those AHA moments, hit me! Sam (another fellow Toastmaster) said, “Teena, When you said that about being a coach, I laughed and told Michael, if Teena Drake told me I could do it, I would believe it and do it.”

I laughed it off, yet allowed his kind and motivational words to sink in.

Sam hit the bullseye! I always knew I was labeled a cheerleader. However, after a certain age the title cheerleader, isn’t how I would describe myself. Because it is isolated to one team or age group. However, over the years some of my greatest emotional accomplishments were during my times of coaching. And yes, I mean original types of sports coaching- Tee ball, flag football, middleschool volleyball, cheerleading, track…as well as talent, beauty, pageants and academics!

In the sports world, I struggled with insecurities. I never felt ‘good’ enough to uphold the title Coach. I don’t know if it was my lack of ability in those skill sets or my lack of knowledge. But I rarely placed my ‘coaching’ experience on a resume or LinkedIn, until now.

However, my teams were always successful. I have a great deal to celebrate over the multitude of wins and improvements in my athletes. But I didn’t have faith in my own ability.

Although my style of coaching is much different than the past, the main purpose/goal, is invariably the same. I love it! As coach… you are their cheerleader, small tiny voice in their heads that says, “Yes, you can!” Mentor, guide and most of all motivator.

Along with so many people who assist, motivate, hold me accountable and uplift my gifts, I must express my deepest gratitude to all of them and to my fellow Toastmaster friends.

You see, you do not know when your words could change someone’s life forever! If you see something terrific in someone tell them. They may need a little boost to fullfill their own dreams and ambitions. We are all in this together.

I am grateful to know I am on the right path.

Do you love this feeling as well? Haven’t found it yet? Still looking for a title that resignates with you? Look into our services we are building an empire of self development tools, wide variety of coaches, and keynote speakers.

There is no greater or less than, when it comes to you…

As ‘life’ seems to happen around us, many people like to compare stories or talk about the issues. However, there is no comparisons between your story and theirs.

Of course we are all connected and as humans, we can all FEEL empathy or sympathy depending on our similar incidents.

But…everyone has moments of being depressed, sad, hurt, lost and disappointed. I can remember the day, my son explained that pointing out all the reasons someone should be grateful, isn’t always the best feeling emotion for someone suffering. I questioned why or why not, it always seemed to work for me. Highlighting all the reasons I should be grateful, how blessed I am and so on.

Nick explained how sometimes those comments are more detrimental to the person.

That was several years ago and to be completely honest, I didn’t truly understand.

Now, I do!

You see we ALL have moments where life feels overwhelming, too much and disappointing. Those who their stories, are well known and inspire others, but also you and me.

As I wrote and rewrote my speech for the area contest @Earlybirdstoastmasterskc, the days seemed to be zooming by. Closer and closer, my excitement was building and the anticipation of all the exciting opportunities, this club has to offer, was assisting me in working up the best message, I had ever written! Ohhh, if you could only feel my radiating excitement.

Yet, day by day in LA we had to jump one hurdle and then twenty five more or maybe a hundred more! (Okay I am being a bit over dramatic, as Ashby says).

But it is true. I could whine and cry about every little speed bump thrown in front of us, but where would we be then? Instead let me share what I have learned.

This week I had to let go of my first speech competition. It was to be on Monday February 5th. There were no guarantees I would move on to the next level, because our club has intense competition, but I wanted to attempt it, in the worst kind of way!

I had prepared and practiced the entire road trip from Kansas to LA.

As the hurdles popped up, some one at a time, others it seemed like fifty at a time, I began to realize my excitement was about to he turned into disappointment! With all the issues about having Princeton, I quickly realized my trip would be delayed, forcing me to step down from the competition.

Now this may seem silly to anyone else, but I cried and cried! I was disappointed, sad, overwhelmed and a little bit selfish. Most of all I was torn! This was my baby girl and very dear to me granddog. But I also wanted to attempt this competition!

Then my lessons began!!! Everytime I would express my disappointing emotions someone would share on Facebook or tell me about a horrific event. For example in the past month we have lost loved ones to accidents, cancer, flu and suicides. I would cry for them or add to my prayer list.

Yes, my silly little issues seemed trivial after all of that. I have so much to be grateful for, I know that.

Then I realized Nick was correct. Pointing out or minimizing our own disappointments, by comparison, is not fair, to you.

My epiphany was EVERYONE, experiences their own depression and disappointments. And YOURS is just as important as the next one. Because we are all on our own journey and life happens whether we are striving to improve or not.

And MAYBE, JUST MAYBE…this is a key to helping others choose to feel all the emotions, yet not give up.

The key is to allow yourself to feel the negative emotion. Express your feelings of disappointment. (Allow this moment). Do not worry about feeling trivial compared to other people’s issues. I am Not saying dwell on it and/or illuminate the situation, but rather, ALLOW yourself to have a moment of tears.

It is okay!!! There is no greater and less than, when it comes to you and how you feel. Maybe if we begin to allow kids and adults to say, “I feel like giving up.”

We will have less severely depressed or suicides. When I was having a moment of ‘selfish disappointments’ it felt good to allow the sadness, for a moment. It forced me to find solutions, it allowed me to be human, and it reminded me how quickly ANYONE can give up.

It is time we begin to allow our younger generations to know we have all been there. We have all had struggles and let it out. All of it! Say it if you feel it. It’s okay.

No matter how trivial it may be to others. Your disappointments, moments of sadness or maybe your losses are not comparable to others! You are allowed to say it because believe it or not… EVERYONE experiences negative emotions.

My greatest hope is…this post will help one person to choose life. If you are not feeling so well about something, say it! And quit worrying about comparing apples, arangatans, and kale spinach. This is YOUR EXPERIENCE! No one elses!

Sunday Funday…

Don’t look too deeply into this picture. It was a funny incident to make Sunday an even funnier day! What you are looking at is an exfoliating mask, by glamglow. It had never been opened and as I squeezed for the third time, out burst this gritty, green, clumpy, goo. I began laughing and laughing, not recognizing where the majority, had ended up.

As I smeared on the face mask and checked to ensure all was well covered, I glanced up and there they were…two tubular, greeish colored, squirts that looked similar to baby poop, formed in the funniest letters, P U. I immediatly began laughing and laughing. Eric came in wondering what the heck was going on.

Of course, when I showed him, he giggled, but also rubbed his head in wonder. LOLOLOLOLOL! I am still laughing.

Isn’t it funny how the simpiliest things can set the tone for your entire day? Of course it goes both ways, if you focus on the sad, depressing issues, in return the world is an unhappy place. However, if you take the first step and focus on the happy, funny issues, even if it is as simple as a mirror oops, you will begin to feel a little better. You will begin to see the world as a much brighter place. Regardless of everyone else’s opinion.

God Bless
